5 Best Family Friendly Activities in Perth

by Sydney Bear, The Sebel Host | July 18, 2018

With its beautiful beaches and vibrant culture, Perth is one of Australia’s best destinations for family-friendly holidays.

Whether you’re visiting with children, teenagers or your entire extended family, Perth has attractions to suit all ages. If you’re unfamiliar with the city’s landscape, we’ve created a go-to guide to provide you with hours of entertainment.

Start planning the ultimate family-friendly Perth holiday by adding these activities to your itinerary.

Adventure World

Packed with rollercoasters, waterslides and Aussie wildlife, Adventure World should be at the top of every fun-loving family’s to-do list. Suited for both the young and the young at heart, this theme park is a thrill-seeker’s paradise.

If the 18-metre, fast-paced funnel of the Kraken waterslide doesn’t get your heart racing, strap yourself into the Abyss rollercoaster to experience a vertical drop, inversion loops and a zero-gravity roll.

Looking for a slightly more sedate activity for your youngsters? The Aussie Wildlife Experience is a chance to see kangaroos, koalas, wombats and emus up close.

Before the kids start getting hangry, grab a bite to eat at the theme park’s café. With everything from burgers to salad on the menu (and craft beers for the grown-ups), there’s something to satisfy every appetite.

Avoid queueing up for your favourite rides by booking an Adventure World Fast Pass.

iFLY Perth

Open to everyone aged over 3 years, iFLY Perth is an indoor skydiving facility. Founded by former SAS soldiers, it’s the perfect place to experience a simulated flight. By funnelling vertical airflow into a wind tunnel, iFLY mimics the sensation of free falling you’d normally get from skydiving.

Designed to offer the excitement of skydiving in a safe and controlled environment, iFLY is an activity the whole family can enjoy.

Cottesloe Beach

Nothing beats a day out at the beach when it comes to family-friendly activities in Perth. Located around 14 kilometres from the city, Cottesloe Beach is one of Western Australia’s most beloved seaside destinations.

Covering more than a kilometre of pristine white sand and azure Indian Ocean, this section of coastline is popular with surfers, snorkellers and divers. The esplanade is lined with coffee shops and restaurants, making Cottesloe Beach one of Perth’s premier dining spots.

To try some of Perth’s famously delicious seafood, check out the Cott & Co. Fish Bar.

Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is a favourite family-friendly playground among tourists and locals alike. Surrounded by sheltered bays, it offers a unique blend of tranquillity and adventure. Hike all over the island, spend the day surfing, or rent bikes and go exploring (no cars are allowed on Rottnest Island, so you won’t have to worry about traffic).

Located just 19 kilometres off the coast of Fremantle, getting to Rottnest Island is easy. Catching a ferry takes around 25 minutes from Fremantle or 45 minutes from Perth.

To see Rottnest Island from above, consider taking the Air Taxi. This mode of transport might be a little more expensive than going by boat, but you’ll get to marvel at incredible views of Western Australia’s stunning coastline.

Scitech Perth

One of the trickier aspects of taking a family holiday is keeping the kids entertained. To avoid any boredom-induced meltdowns, include a visit to Scitech Perth in your travel plans. With activities for early childhood, primary and secondary-aged students, this not-for-profit organisation aims to engage kids with activity-based learning.

Activities and attractions at Scitech include a science theatre, puppet show, exhibits and galleries, and a planetarium. From future engineers to aspiring astronauts, Scitech can capture any kid’s imagination.
